About

My interest in amateur radio started late in life, when I got my license in 2024 at age 50. My dad was a ham in his youth and let his license lapse before I was born, but he still talks fondly about it. WB2HOC was his call sign back in the 1960s, so I picked it up in homage to my dad.

My interests include POTA/SOTA, learning CW, FT8, APRS, portable ops, building wire antennas, and combining radio with other outdoor pursuits. I'm a member of the Maryland Mobileers Amateur Radio ClubLong Island CW ClubStraight Key Century Club, and Maryland Radio Outdoors.
